Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is the latest in facial rejuvenation obtained from your own blood sample which contains platelets rich in growth factors and natural proteins that can supercharge healing and reverse damage in the skin. PRP has been used in medical procedures to accelerate healing of injuries, joint surgery orthopaedic surgery, facial rejuvenation and more recent times- cosmetic surgery. At Specialist cosmetic surgery we use PRP as part of a skin rejuvenation program.

WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR & IS IT SAFE?

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is appealing to clients who want a more natural method to skin rejuvenation, or in combination therapy to treat – fine lines, crepyness, dull/ dry skins, wrinkled , damaged and skins which lacklustre . It is safe and effective, nothing artificial or modified as it is YOUR plasma. For severe and advance ageing of the skin a more suitable combination of treatments would be required.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?

45- 60 minutes

HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?

Three (3) treatments at 4-6 week intervals. This may vary as each program is individually tailored based on age and health of the skin.

WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?

Improvement in skin texture and tone is visible within three weeks. Full collagen regeneration takes three (3) months and continues to improve in skin tone and texture. Advanced damage and wrinkling of skin may take longer.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER TREATMENT

After your treatment the skin will have some mild swelling and redness which can last up to 12-24 hours. Once swelling has subsided you skin will go back to normal, it is over the coming weeks platelets will stimulate collagen production.

ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Minimal swelling, bruising and redness for 12-24 hours – bruising may occur at site of injection this will subside in 2-7 days.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING THE TREATMENT

Your skin is cleansed and prepared, a topical numbing cream is applied to skin for 15- 20 minutes (Nerve blocks can also be given). A blood sample is taken and placed in a test tube where platelet rich plasma can be easily separated from blood through a process called centrifugation this process takes around 10 minutes. PRP is prepared and activated then small injections are performed into the area to be treated.

Dermal roller can also be applied to help PRP to get into the skin. A cooling mask is applied to the skin to aid in recovery.

Aftercare information will be given to you, a review is recommended 3 weeks after treatment.

DO I NEED ANY PREPARATION?

Avoid any active ingredients such as Vitamin A,C &E , 48 hours prior to you appointment.

It is advisable not to take herbal or vitamin supplements (eg – fish oil, vitamin E) for 7 days prior to your treatment. Or blood thinning medication such as aspirin or nurofen ( check with your doctor if you are taking blood thinning medication).
