It can have a major psychological impact on men, preventing them from enjoying life to the fullest. However, as a gynecomastia surgeon my aim is not merely to remove the gland. Focusing on removing the gland creates a crater deformity which is a poor cosmetic outcome. Who wants to swap one deformity for another?

My aim for each and every man that I see with gynecomastia is to create a normal sculpted chest. My focus is on creating a great cosmetic result. Liposuction assisted gland removal is therefore a must. I have also taken it one step further with the use of VASER high definition Liposculpture technique that can create a 6-pack as well as a sculpted chest area.
Gynecomastia surgery helps to remove abnormal breast gland tissue in men and sculpt the chest to define the pectoralis muscle to achieve a masculine chest.
Modern gynecomastia techniques include liposuction to sculpt and refine, and to avoid a depression where the gland has been. All surgery includes VASER liposculpture as well as gland excision, which is essential in achieving a great result.

Depending on the extent of the procedure you require, a gynecomastia procedure can take between 1.5 to 2.5 hours under a general anaesthetic. If you are having High definition sculpting as part of your surgery then you can expect this to take around 3 to 4 hours under a general anaesthetic.
Dr Beldholm performs his gynecomastia procedures in two private hospitals in the Hunter Valley:
- Maitland Private Hospital
- Hunter Valley Private Hospital
VASER Liposculpture gynecomastia surgery
VASER liposculpture is used as part of your gynecomastia surgery and has many benefits to more traditional liposuction.
There are a variety of techniques for the surgery itself, depending on the specifics of each case. Generally, the procedure can be either liposuction, gland removal, or a combination of the two.
Liposuction is best for candidates whose enlarged breasts are caused by fatty tissue build-up only. Dr Beldholm will work to create a plan that best suits you.
Gland removal combined with liposuction is the preferred approach for candidates who have gynecomastia caused by enlarged glandular tissue. The procedure is performed under a general anesthetic in a Private Hospital.
Each procedure is tailored to the patient, but incisions are typically made around the edge of the areola.
Recovery from gynecomastia surgery will vary for each individual and will depend on the extent of your procedure.
If you are having liposuction only then the recovery is typically no more than 1-2 weeks.
If you are having standard Vaser liposuction gynecomastia surgery, you can generally return home on the same day as surgery, following a post-operative check by Dr. Beldholm.
A compression garment will be fitted after the operation, which you will be required to wear for 2-4 weeks following surgery.
You will be reviewed several times over the first few weeks. Most patients return to work and regular activities approximately 4 to 5 days after the operation.
We have created an post-operative course of LED light treatments after you leave hospital to maximise healing and recovery.
Your procedure is not considered complete until Dr. Beldholm has met with you to follow up after your operation. He will ensure you are healing and that all the expectations discussed in your one-on-one consultation have been met.
You will generally see the doctor on the day after the operation and also in 1 month, 3 months and 6 months following surgery. These appointments are included in the surgical fee.
The refined surgical techniques result in strategically-placed scars that are hidden from view and will become almost imperceptible over the course of a year. The final result may take about a year to become fully apparent, as swelling subsides and the liposuction settles in the first six to twelve months.
“I treat many men with gynecomastia surgery and I have personally observed the positive impact that this surgery can have. Having breasts as a man is very embarrassing and can have a life long impact. I have spoken to men that have quit their job, will no longer socialise, and even stopped dating because of it. Seeing the transformation after surgery in these men is amazing”
